Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to safely move your above-ground pool from one location to another, whether that’s across the backyard or across the state. With careful analysis and preparation, your pool can stay in use for years to come. Before attempting to move your pool, read through the guide to get an idea of how the process works.
Step #1: Inspection
Carefully
drain your pool and begin the inspection process. Check all pool elements for any signs of damage, excessive rust, or rot. Some rust on certain parts is normal, but anything that seems weak or unstable probably needs to be replaced. If your pool is in good condition, it is ready to be moved.
Step #2: Remove the Vinyl Liner, Wall Bolts, Skimmer & Return Fitting
Disassembly is the largest component of safely moving your pool. You’ll want to start by removing the liner, then working on removing wall components like bolts, return fittings and skimmers.
Step #3: Remove Uprights
Next remove the uprights, which are the supportive beams along the pool wall.
Step #4: Tightly Roll the Wall
When rolling the pool wall, try to get the roll as tight as possible to ensure easy transport. For this step, it’s helpful to have several people assisting.
Step #5: Disconnect the Pool Filter System
After removing the wall, you have access to the bottom rail, base plates, and
filter system. Disconnect the system and disassemble the base components. If needed, make a note of how things fit together for reference during reassembly. Your smartphone can come in handy for notes and photos to help jog your memory when you reassemble.
Step #6: Clean Pool Parts & Accessories
Before loading everything for transport, clean your pool accessories, including hosing off any dirt on exterior pieces. A clean set of equipment will ensure the reassembly process goes smoothly.
Step #7: Reinstall
Once you’ve reached your pool’s new destination, it’s recommended that you
contact a pool professional to assist you in the installation process. If you’re confident and would prefer to do it on your own, you’ll want to make sure you’ve prepared a smooth pool base before assembling the parts in reverse order. Remember that draining your pool will damage the integrity of your liner, so a
new pool liner is essential after you’ve moved your pool. LinerWorld has a wide variety of options to choose from, including
overlap and beaded liner selections, for round, oval, and rectangular-shaped pools.
